Presenting the output of the project "Forgotten Heroes"

On Friday 30 November 2007 the presentation of the current output of the project called "Documenting the life stories of the active anti-Nazis who were affected by the measures taken against so-called enemy population in post-war Czechoslovakia" took place at the Faculty of Philosophy of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in  Ústí nad Labem.

The main participants of the Project are the Institute of Contemporary History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the National Archives of the Czech Republic and the Museum of Ústí nad Labem. Among other significant contributors there are mainly the Institute of Humanity Studies and the Faculty of Philosophy at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and Collegium Bohemicum. The Project is planned to be completed by 30 September 2008.

The presentation was open by Blanka Mouralová, the head of Collegium Bohemicum, then Iva Ritschelová, the rector of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in  Ústí nad Labem, and Gustav Krov, the director of the Museum of Ústí nad Labem, shortly welcomed all the guests and participants. After that the reports on the up-to-date results of the participating historical institutions, introduced by Jiří Kocian, the Project's coordinator, were read to the guests including representatives of the German and Austrian Embassies as well as those of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After the presentations and the discussion, more than a hundred participants from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic left for the opening of an exhibition called "Forgotten Heroes".

Book presentation and interview with the author

Sudetoněmečtí antifašisté, jejich předválečné, válečné a poválečné osudy ve světle čísel a osobních svědectví.

Publicistka Alena Wagnerová začala v roce 2002 shromažďovat rozhovory s českými sociálními demokraty a komunisty německé národnosti. Na základě těchto rozhovorů se autorka snažila zrekonstruovat životní osudy dotazovaných osob. Jedná se o první a s největší pravděpodobností i o poslední podrobné a publikované svědectví těchto lidí o jejich pohnutém životě mezi odporem, vyhnáním a novými začátky. Životní osudy těchto lidí nám pomáhají pochopit, jaká individuální utrpení zavinily společenské předsudky a politické pronásledování ve 20. století ve jménu nejrůznějších režimů. S laskavou podporou Nadace Roberta Bosche a Německého velvyslanectví v Praze.
