The first stage of the project "Forgotten Heroes" will be grounded on seeking out people who were persecuted, establishing contacts with them or their families and on creating a database of these heroes. The research plan includes creating a set of recorded interviews with the witnesses/participants or possibly with their descendants. The researchers will be using one of the new methods for historical studies that is called "oral history", which lies in collecting authentic testimonies of historical event witnesses. Paralelly, they will study historical documents in various archives with special attention to the documents that resulted from the activities of the Protectorate and later Czechoslovak central authorities. The Project's aim is to change the concepts of "antifascists" and "anti-Nazis" and the regulations applied to them.
This study is not likely to bring about a breaking point in the perception of the WWII and post-WWII history, but hopefully it will contribute to the clarification of formerly unexplored issues. The authentic testimonies will surely help the public to complete their pictures of our history.
